Juwan

Hi, my name is Juwan, and I graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc General Degree, majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Chemistry.

Teaching and mentoring have always been innate talents that I never knew I had up until I started volunteering at the TELUS World of Science centre and assisting the Science Experience staff there with running programs and fun activities for the little ones as well as teaching the youth at my local church group certain passages and chapters of the Bible. That was when I discovered my passion for educating and academically nourishing kids and teenagers and seeing them enjoy the learning process and the fruits of their labor even when it gets challenging at times.

I’ve also always had a love for studying biological systems and being able to break them down into their individual components before putting them back together to get a better understanding of that specific system. This is then applied to my method for teaching where both the teacher and student are able to take any complex system or concept and break it down to its individual, working components to better their knowledge over the whole system or concept.

My personal philosophy with regards to teaching and mentoring is that a good teacher is one who ensures their students will perform better not just at academics, but at life than they themselves did when they were once their students’ age.

In my spare time, I watch some TV shows, read books and light novels, play video games here and there and indulge in some of my creative writing projects.
