Ashley

Hello! My name is Ashley though most people just call me Ash. I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with distinction.

When it comes to art and culture I’ve always been interested in questions about why things are the way they are and what they can tell us about the rest of the world, and I believe that having a strong grasp of the humanities, and the ability to express this understanding through writing, is essential for parsing and navigating our complex society.

One of the things I’ve found most rewarding throughout my studies is that ‘aha!’ moment when a concept finally clicks into place and I can break it down and apply it to the world around me. My goal with tutoring is to reinforce the academic muscles that make those moments come naturally. I recognize that successful learning in the humanities comes from being able to connect complex concepts together and apply them to what you already know. Since every student is different it’s important to me that I get to understand what each student is passionate about as well as areas where they might struggle, then tailor my teaching accordingly.

During my free time I love to go birdwatching, watch films, and enjoy the local arts scenes in Southern Alberta. I’m excited to work with students to reach their academic goals and develop confidence in their own abilities.
